As a senior artist, he is a member of China Artists Association, as well as an Art consultant of the China Oriental Art Museum, president of Xicheng Painting Academy, and president of Liuxiang Oil Painting Research Association. From 1982 to 1986, he continued his studies at Beijing Capital Normal University and Nanjing University of the Arts. After proving to his undeniable artistic talent to his fellow student body and teachers, his work "Small Court Ringtone" was later collected by the Capital Normal University .
Zhai is a dedicated oil painter who is constantly in search of ways to hone his craft. In recent years, his paintings both at home and abroad are mainly landscape paintings, as he believes that landscapes are the perfect vehicle for him to express his emotions, and turn his trials and tribulations into something beautiful . Using realistic techniques, he expresses the majesty of the various regions of China, using tactful and usually bright plays on colour. His work, “Nilka XinJiang Scenery” is very much a condensation of these elements, as he employs a vivid triadic colour scheme (using mainly primary colours) to portray his unique take on the XinJiang landscape.
