Huang Wen Cheng

BORN: 1960

Huang Wen Cheng is a member of Guangxi Branch of Chinese Artists Association, Deputy Director of China’s ASEAN painting and calligraphy committee, and vice president of North Bay Oil Painting Conservatory.

He graduated from the Guangxi Institute of Oil Painting Arts in 1986. He had also graduated from the School of Design, Guangxi in 2004. Huang’s artworks are collected by the Australia & Singapore Embassies in China, as well as collectors from the United States, Canada, Japan, Malaysia & Hong Kong.

Much of his subject inspirations have derived from the native people of rural China and their lifestyles - More specifically, the Miao people, who primarily live in southern China's mountains, in the provinces of Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong and Hainan. He captures the splendour of their unique lifestyles and traditions in fully rendered realism using the rich element of oil painting. Through his eyes, we are able to peek into the lives of these uncommon individuals, as we feel invited into the homes of the Miao people with “Harmonious Family”, understand the traditions of the female work roles in “Miao’s Weaving Girls”, and even get to see an unlikely interaction between the rural Miao women and a modern piece of art apparatus, presumably Huang’s, in “Future for Miao Mountain”, which results in a lighthearted take on a juxtaposition between tradition and modernity. In paintings such as “Spring in Miao Mountain” and other scenic pieces, we can sit back and admire the unbound simplicity of the rural life, which can be a far cry to the fast-paced lifestyle of the modern person.
