Artist Aw Hong Beng studied at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, graduating with a Diploma in Chinese Painting. He then became involved in the local arts scene as a founder member of the Singapore San-Yi Finger Painting Society.
As a versatile artist, Aw’s works can be contemporary akin to abstract, or painting using traditional Chinese artforms. His contemporary abstract work can be identified with faces that he utilizes, with his backdrops in a wash of a singular colour, while experimenting with different tones of the chosen colour.
He has held a number of solo exhibitions in Singapore; in 1980, 1981, 1989 and 1994, and participated in the Pan Pacific Art Exhibition in Seoul, Korea in 1985. To add on to his accomplishments, his works were featured at the Singapore Art Fair in 1986 and he won the First Prize in the UOB Painting of the Year Competition in the years 1986, 1989 and 1996, respectively.
