“Overturn For Spring” By Katrina Pallon

  • Goshen Art Gallery 13 Stamford Road Singapore, 178905 Singapore (map)

A new year brings a host of new possibilities, and visual artist Katrina Pallon celebrated the unfolding narrative of 2019 with a collection that reflects her nuanced understanding of the Chinese culture’s aesthetic principles – principles that are strongly integrated with their appreciation and understanding of the inner workings of the universe. Throughout history, symbolism is the visual language that ancient mystics were fluent in and were endeavored to share through traditional paintings that were brimming with design elements representative of significant milestones and, at times, for the purpose of drawing in good fortune.

Pallon continues this tradition in her upcoming exhibit, “Overture for Spring”, which draws viewers into an indulgent land that embodies the festive spirit of the Lunar New Year, in a collection where the artist plays with the elements of traditional Chinese paintings and infuses them in her own style to imbue them with a more contemporary take. To be held from January 23 to February 3 at Goshen Art Gallery in Singapore, the show ushers in the new year with works that showcase lush stylized floral designs complemented with elements that reveal Pallon’s strong grasp of the aesthetic nuances peculiar to Chinese culture, embodied by the dragons, bold lanterns, and the peonies symbolic of wealth and honor.
