Xian Xiao Qian

Formerly a middle school teacher, then a painter and calligrapher, Xian Xiao Qian (b. 1955-2005), is a member of the Chinese Artists Association and the Chinese Book Association, Deputy Editor of the Guangxi People’s Publishing House, and Director of the Art Editor Office of the China Thread-bound Book Company. In 1977, he was admitted to the Department of Fine Arts at the Guangxi Art Institute and graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor’s Degree in oil painting.

Xian is deeply rooted in the aesthetics of traditional Chinese culture, as seen through his oil painting works that showcase these unique characteristics and his profound skills. His realistic paintings often emanate a sense of serenity and tranquility, capturing peaceful moments and scenic views with a soft glow.

With his calligraphy and oil pieces, Xian has participated in multiple national and international art exhibitions over the years, like his solo oil painting exhibitions held in the Singapore Art Museum in 1993 and the Beijing International Art Museum in 1999. A number of his works have been collected by the National Art Museum of China, the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall, the Murakami Art Museum in Japan, and the National Art Museum in Australia.

The many accomplishments under his belt consist of numerous awards as well, including the first prize of the Guangxi Fine Arts Professional Creation in 1987, the Silver Award of the Third International Painting and Calligraphy Art Exhibition in Tokyo, Japan, the honorary gold exhibition of the famous cross-strait Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition in 1996, the bronze award of the China Today Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition in 1998, and the Excellent Works Award of China Contemporary Oil Painting Exhibition in 2001.
