Liu Guo (b. 1959-2017) started learning to paint at the age of 6 and moved on to graduate from the Department of Fine Arts of Northeast Normal University in 1980. He has also studied at the China Academy of Art. He is currently the Principal and Senior Artist of Changbaishan Art Academy and holds many other positions including Art Researcher and Associate Professor in the Educational Institute of Jilin Province, Art Director of the New Era Arts Centre of Singapore and Director of the Chinese Calligraphy Artists Association.
He often visited the famous mountains of China, especially Changbaishan, and mastered his landscape painting skills there. In the process of perfecting his skills, he invented 12 new techniques of painting with ink. To introduce these new techniques he created to the world, he published a book titled “New Techniques in Chinese Landscape Painting” in 1990, which then led to them being promoted in schools throughout China.
The Chinese landscape paintings he created have influenced the painting circles at home and abroad and are known as the "Liu Guo Shanshui", rated as "One of the Best in China" by the China 100 Best Exposition. He has been invited to exhibit his work in 22 exhibitions across major cities at home and abroad, including Singapore, Malaysia, Jakarta, Indonesia, the United States, Russia, South Korea, Guangzhou, Hainan, and Harbin. The second large-scale personal painting exhibition has exhibited more than 3,000 works at home and abroad, many of which have won awards and been collected by domestic and foreign art galleries, museums, internationally renowned universities and well-known collectors.
Professor Liu Guo has successively won the "20th Century International Famous Professor Achievement Award" and been named "World Calligraphy and Painting Art Celebrity", "International Silver Award Artist" and "Outstanding Meritorious Artist". He is also mentioned under lists such as "Chinese Contemporary Charity Artists" and "The Fifth Batch of Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions in Jilin Province". His biography has been included in more than 60 domestic and foreign famous classics, including "Who's Who in the World", and is known as one of China's most powerful innovative painters, and one of the founders of the Changbai School of Painting.
