Professor Zhang Xing was born in Kunshan, China in 1955. In the 1970s, he learned skills and techniques respectively from masters Zhang Ji Xin, Chen Da Yu, Qian Jun Tao, Liu Hai Su and in the 1980s he studied in the Yangzhou Art and Craft School, Chinese Painting and Calligraphy University, and the Tsinghua University Art Institute.
As well as being an artist, he is also a prolific contributor to politics , as presently he is a member of Jiangsu Committee China Democratic National Construction Association, the Peasant and Worker Democratic Party, and a standing committee member to the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Hailing from the city of Kunshan, Professor Zhang Xing draws rich inspiration for his paintings from the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Known for his audacious and expressive style in Chinese folk painting, Zhang brings the beauty of birds, flowers and mountains in his hometown to life in bold renderings. Though Zhang’s works now hang in galleries, museums, and private collections around the world, he continues to refine his bold, expressive style. As he explores the contemporary expression of traditional themes, he is now forging a new path in Chinese folk painting.
His 73-meter-long ink and wash painting Misty Rain in the South of Yangtze River was collected in the Guinness Book of World Records. In March 1998, Zhang Xing’s painting Morning Songs from Fishing Boats was selected by the Hong Kong government as a gift to American President Bill Clinton, and on Nov 6, 2007, his painting named Great Achievement was given to former British prime minister Tony Blair as a national gift.
His works have been published in professional newspapers and magazines more than 400 times and he has won many prizes in national art exhibitions. Zhang Xing has made many guest appearances on different TV networks including, Shanghai TV, Singapore TV, USA TV and the local station in Guangdong.
He has been published in publications such as the Shanghai Literature and Art Publishing House, Tianjin People’s Art Press, and the Shanghai Sanlian Bookstore Publishing House.
His own gallery, the “Zhang Xing Art Gallery” was built by Jinxi Town People’s Government Kunshan City Jiangsu Province in 2001. This art museum, which was 3,500 square meters, was set up by Luzhi People’s Government Wuzhong District Suzhou City Jiangsu Province in 2014.
