Born in China 1951, Stephen Leong Chun Hong originates from the province of Guangdong. Ever since he was just a young child, he had received formal art training, which had sparked his passion and early pursuit of calligraphy and painting.
In his early adulthood, he embarked to Singapore and graduated from the Nanyang Fine Art Academy, before furthering his post-graduate study at the Nottingham Butin Polytechnic University, in. the United Kingdom. He was awarded a master’s degree in art in 1996, which he had successfully attained from RMIT University in Australia.
His paintings done in Chinese ink, touch nearly every corner of the ancient art form as he employs both abstract and detailed styles, with a splendid mastery of layering to create the effect of a mixed media assemblage in works such as “Ling Bo Red Lotus” and “Lilies in the Wind”. His subject matter ranges from exotic animals (monkeys, penguins, flamingoes) to still life, freestyle calligraphy and landscapes. The way he handles his paint brush is like a breathe of fresh air; with confidence and an invigorating energy that translates to his paintings.
For 40 years, Stephen has made leaps and bounds in his artistic career, his prowess attracting many art collectors and galleries worldwide. He is currently the President of the Fine Arts Association, the Chairman of the Miaohua Arts Association, and the Art Research Consultant of Xu Shihong Academy of Painting.
